Background: The main
competence of a nurse is able to develop the professionalism and lifelong
learning. To achieve this goal, STIKes. Suaka Insan Banjarmasin tried to instil the
values of self-learning with problem-based learning activities (PBL). In the
PBL activities, Self-directed learning (SDL) becomes an integral part. This
study aims to describe self-learning activities of nursing students in terms of
learning motivation, planning and implementation, monitoring of self and
interpersonal communication. Method: This research used descriptive
quantitative method with a total sampling as a way of sampling to the 63
nursing students from bachelor program. The instruments used is Self-Directed
Learning Instrument that has been tested for its validity and reliability.
Result: In terms of motivation to learn, students of STIKes. Suaka
Insan Banjarmasin who used PBL method to learn has a high motivation, which is
about 93.65%. In terms of planning and implementation is as high as 68, 25%.
This was consistent with the terms of independent learning such as
self-monitoring and interpersonal communication, both of which are getting
dominant values, namely 65, 08% and 68.25%. Conclusion: Students of STIKes. Suaka
Insan Banjarmasin in bachelor program has a picture of good self-learning
process. This is shown by the high motivation to learn, planning and
motivation, self-monitoring and interpersonal communication.
