In translating the name of diseases in English to Indonesian or in opposite, we often find terms that sound awkward when it was translated word by word. Names of diseases such as chicken pox or raja singa, etc. cannot be translated in that way. They are not in correlation to the name of animals (chicken or lion). That‟s why translating the name of diseases, we need enough knowledge about the concept of the diseases. In English, “sick” has some synonyms, such as: pain, ache, ill, hurt etc. They will carry a certain difficulty about what is the appropriate word to go with them. Understandings about these synonyms are very important to avoid the awkwardness. This article is a library research with observation technics. The result of the research is presented descriptively. The findings of the research show that there are six classifications of names of diseases in English. They are: 1) ended by morpheme –ache; 2) ended by morpheme –sick; 3) started or ended by sore; 4) ended by diseases; 5) ended by morpheme –itis; 6) started by the name of animal; 7) similar to the name of the diseases in Indonesian.
