The aim of this research is to identify the influence of melt temperature and melt duration on microstructure in casting product. The casting method used is pour casting, in which the metal melting of pouring in the mold was unpressed and than freezed in the mold on cooling temperature. The furnace melting used a crucible furnace and the metal molding used coal briquette as fuel. While the casting of material used Al-Mg scrap alloy (Al-21%Mg). Flux covers the melt so that uncontacted air used KCl, MgCl2 and BaCl2 mixing. Al-Mg alloy melted in the furnace with the temperature variation of 650 oC, 700 oC and 750 oC with the melting time of 10, and 15 minutes and than the pouring in metal molding is at the temperature 200 o. The next step was freezing and cooling in the mold. After that casting product made the specimen for the testing of microstructure. The result showed that the higher melting temperature influence to smoother fassa α-Al. The longer the melting time, the structure of α-Al particle will be smoother.
