This research is about one of the most important factors in human
resources management, that is performance evaluation problem. This research tries
to focus on leaders’ behavior in making performance evaluation, which is not just
based on the performance, but also influenced by the leaders’ personal needs, which
is in this research called “performance evaluation politics”. Previous researches
showed that performance evaluation politics with punishment motives can decrease
employee’s job satisfaction. This research uses institutional lecturers in 7 collages
in Banjarmasin as the population, and uses 65 institutional lecturers as samples. The
focus is on how much leaders’ performance evaluation politics with punishment
motives influence job satisfaction. The findings show that there is a relationship
between punishment motives and job satisfaction. The conclusion of this research
shows that performance evaluation politics must be minimized because it can
decrease employee’s job satisfaction and cause their inconvenience of working in
their institutions.
