Most areas Kotabaru District is an area of beaches, plains and undulating area of moderate
and severe. From the east coast is an area that is fairly flat, the westward region increasingly
undulating to hilly. Land in Kotabaru district consists mostly of soft soils consisting of droplets of
very small such as clay or silt.This study is intended to retrieve and test the nature of the soil
samples taken in the area of Kotabaru district and test the shear strength with shear tests vane (vane
shear test) and test sondir to determine the value of custody ends and correlating the values
obtained against NK.The low bearing capacity of clay in the area of Bukit Rawi views of the
mechanical properties such as soil bearing capacity CBR and UCS value it is necessary to increase
the bearing capacity of the soil so that it can be used as a soil base (subgrade) for highway with a
minimum CBR value of 6 %. that is based on the standard of Bina Marga.The test results parameter
values for the soft ground Across Heroes cemetery location (location 1) is obtained parameter
water content = 74.06%, parameter volume weight = 1.54 g / cm3, the parameter density = 2.42,
liquid weight parameter ( LL) = 44.25%, parameter plastic limit (PL) = 28.12% and plasticity index
parameter (PI) = 16.13%. The test results for the soft value parameter Side Airport Road location
(location 2) is obtained parameter water content = 92.93%, parameter volume weight = 1.45 g /
cm3, the parameter density = 2.34, weight parameters of the liquid (LL) = 40.25%, parameter
plastic limit (PL) = 26.22% and plasticity index parameter (PI) = 14.03%. From the calculation of
the data, it can be searched value Su. Where the value of the diameter of the propeller vane shear
test used in the field is 7.5 cm. To get the value Su using propellers with top and bottom corner
geonor (iT = iB = 450 and 450). For the study site in Seberang Heroes Cemetery obtained average
value Su is 12.96 kPa and for research sites in the Airport Road side gained an average value Su
