An experiment was conducted to study Development Strategy of Swamp Buffaloes through by approach of Location Quotient, Feeds Avaibility, Capacities of Regional Patch and SWOT Analysis in South Kalimantan. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the potency of crop residues as feeds resources, animal population density and to formulate strategy of swamp buffaloes development.. This research was conducted from November 2002 to May 2003 in South Kalimantan. The data related to ruminant characteristics were collected and analyzed, including analysis of swamp buffaloe performances, animal unit-based population number, animal population density. Besides, the estimation of annual products and capacities of crop residues, feeds capacity index. The formulation of strategy of swamp buffaloes was conducted by applying SWOT analysis. The result showed that Based on LQ value, Hulu Sungai Utara, Hulu Sungai Selatan regency really more suited for development of swamp buffaloes. The development strategy of swamp buffaloes which are relied on existence of farm potency, region ability on livestock capacity, feeds availability can be done in Hulu Sungai Utara, Hulu Sungai Selatan regency. Its highly opened the opportunity of South Kalimantan as a supplied of swamp buffaloes beside arrangement of matching region with farm condition.
